The debut of X Chat marks another milestone in Elon Musk’s quest to turn the platform into an all-in-one “everything app.”
Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has announced a new private messaging feature that includes disappearing messages and advanced encryption inspired by Bitcoin technology.
Since acquiring Twitter in October 2022 and rebranding it as X, Musk has introduced numerous updates to the platform, including plans to integrate payments and transform it into a global marketplace.
Currently in beta testing, X Chat offers an alternative to X’s existing direct messaging system, positioning it as a competitor to popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
In his announcement post on X, Musk highlighted that the new X Chat includes strong encryption, vanishing messages, support for sharing all types of files, and even audio/video calling capabilities.
